Over the last 15+ years, Animal SOS has placed dogs in loving homes, both locally and internationally.
These are a few of their success stories where dogs have found loving homes abroad.
Little Kinabalu was the runt of the litter. Born to mommy Flora, she came out with a deformed limb. But that didn’t stop her from being an absolutely adorable chaos machine 🥰
Patri fell in love with her just from seeing her pictures 💕 After being in Sri Lankan on holiday, she knew the wonderful the characters of street dogs and she couldn’t wait to give one of them a home. She adopted Kinabalu as a surprise for her lovely young son, an aspiring veterinarian with plans to save street dogs 🥹
Since January, Kinabalu has been living in sunny Spain with Patri and her family 🇪🇸
She’s now called Happy - definitely a fitting name! 😂
Her favorite pastimes are hopping about the fields, annoying her older sibling, naps in blankets, pets from her bestie and chewing whatever she can find (which she says she’s trying to quit haha)🧡
The girl has never been happier 🥰 and we can’t thank Patri enough for giving her such a wonderful second chance at life! ✨
✨Meet ZOYA (used to be called Magdalena) ✨
She is our first official overseas adoption with this program back in June, 2024 🥹
Zoya was rescued as a tiny pup in 2021 by a truly incredible couple. They saw her on the side of a majn road. They fed her, and continued on their journey. But, they could not get her out of their minds. They went back the next day (drove for hours to get there) and after 3 hours of searching they found the little baby and brought her to us.
She was malnourished and covered in mange. But with time and our care she grew strong, beautiful and confident 💕
When the official adoption program was announced, her owners were one of the first to comment 🥹 They never stoped thinking about her 🥰
Few months later, Zoya was reunited with her new parents 😍 she is now loved, protected and deeply treasured.
And look! She has even learned to dance 🤩
We wish that every Lankan dog will get a chance to be loved as much as Zoya is 🧡
THIS IS SHADOW (previously Sparrow)!✨
Dumped at the sanctuary as a tiny pup and hand raised by our managers. He was enjoying his life in the large doggo pack, not knowing much more than what takes place within the walls of our sanctuary..
That is until a lovely family from the Netherlands picked him to be their own forever buddy! ✨🏡🧑🧑🧒🧒
Thus began his journey to Europe 🇳🇱
Cat test—> passed
Titre test —> flying colors
Quarantine —> finished
Flight —> checked-in
Once he landed in Amsterdam, he almost leaped out of his crate to the arms of his family 🥰
Ten minutes later we watched him confidently walk away from us with his happy new parents and ecstatic (human) sister. Did we tear? Maybe. But we couldn’t be happier for them 🧡🧡🧡
One year later, Sparrow - now Shadow (aptly named) - is loving his new life as a real Dutch doggo 💕 and we wish him and his family a gazillion more years of joy, adventure and love! 🥹🥰
✨ June 27, 2023 – the night everything changed for Elsie 🐾
A small pup was found trembling in the bushes near Manager House, abandoned on the roadside. She was starving, terrified, infested with parasites, suffering from worms — and diagnosed with Babesia, a serious blood parasite.
She was so close to being lost forever… but that night, luck — and love — were on her side.
Animal SOS Sri Lanka took her in, treated her, and helped her heal both inside and out.
Thanks to their incredible care, Elsie got a second chance at life.
Today, she’s living happily in Germany, surrounded by her new family and her dog friends — safe, loved, and finally home. 💛
She is absolutely treasured, physically and mentally stimulated and taken on the best of vacations!
We are so thankful to her amazing family for giving her the best future we can dream of for one of our dogs 🥹
She was incredibly lucky that night… and now, she’s proof that hope can bloom in the darkest places. ✨
Victim of road traffic accident, River was disabled when she arrived to the sanctuary. But with the current treatment and care, Animal SOS got her walking again!
Her wobbly walk caught the attention of a wonderful couple looking to adopt a pup, they fell in love straight away and the rest is history. For the last few months they were living in Sri Lanka. So, they took River to their accommodation in preparation to get her ready to fly.
She is now living her best life in Antigua!
We asked her parents to tell us about her, and they wrote back with the loveliest update:
"River's a naughty girl. There's nothing better for her than coming up with a prank. She likes to steal pillows and put them in the other dog's bed. River is an energy bomb. She always wakes up at 5:30 and runs around the gallery and garden for hours before the heat, tracking down cats and mongooses. In the afternoon, when the heat subsides, she runs around and tracks them until bedtime. And even after a hard hike, she still tries to lure everyone into the garden to play with toys. She has an Antiguan brother now. He is a model of patience and humility. She can lick his gums and ears for half an hour at a time. And then bite him until he agrees to come out to the garden to play. River loves kitties, our Antiguan goes hiking with them. So they are always together. River spits out all treats but loves sour cream. River will always be a cheerful puppy by the looks of it. She is now four years old and play is a way of life for her. We adore her and kiss her at least 20 times every day. Thank you Lucie for her! ❤️🙏"
Betty was found roaming around the Yala area when she was a tiny puppy by a British family. She was malnourished and covered in mange. The family wanted to adopt her, but Betty had to first get better, get all her vaccinations and go through the proper procedures to get to the UK.
Lucie fostered her. The clinics of Animal SOS made her healthy and strong. When she was ready, Betty made her trip to the UK to join her rescuers.
Now Betty lives in luxury with a wonderful family that loves her immensely 🥰 Does that not just melt your heart?
Gremlin was found when she was just a little puppy in Mawanella. At first sight, she did not seem to have a bright future.
She was born with a deformed limb, was weakened from babesia and had a bite wound and a nasty abscess. With constant care and lifesaving treatment from the vets at Animal SOS, Gremlin got better, she grew stronger and took a job as a model to promote Animal SOS. You might catch her work on advertisements and the socials of the sanctuary.
This lovely couple fell in love with Gremlin and her quirky left arm while visiting Animal SOS. They decided to adopt her and take her to their lovely home in Ukraine. Soon the family will move to Spain.
As you can see, Gremlin has continued her modeling career in the EU (look at all those jackets!) while being showered with love from her family.
This story proves that even dogs with a slight disability can find a great home and an amazing family! 🤩
